Can agricultural lime sulfur (23% sulfide sulfur) be used to oxidize sterling silver and/or copper ?

A. Why not try 5% solution(50 gm/1 lit water). - Cerovski vrh Croatia 2005 "Lime sulfur" is a preparation of calcium polysulfide. "Liver of sulfur" ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] , usually used for the application you describe, is a preparation of potassium polysulfide. What I have heard from patination specialists is that the results will be similar, but not identical - the presence of the calcium alters the shade of the oxidized surface slightly. ![]() Dave Wichern Consultant - The Bronx, New York 2005 |
