Can Black Oxide Coating be Passivated

We have black oxide coated 300 series stainless steel screws on which we have to machine off the black oxide coating in certain areas. Can these screws subsequently be passivated or will the black oxide coating be degraded upon exposure to a passivation plating bath?

Thanks!

You can passivate it fine with a citric formulation, but do not try it with nitric acid.

Let us know if we can help.
