Rechrome or buff out bumper?....need to know

I am restoring a classic car and I want to know how I can buff out the scratches out of my chrome bumper. I'd hate to resort to rechroming it if I can get away with it. The bumper has no rust spots and is fairly smooth. Please help. thanks

The chrome on your bumper is only a few microinches thick, plated over nickel which is about .001" thick. It will not be possible to buff out scratches without buffing through the plating. You'll have to get it replated.
