MIL-Std vs. AMS Std's

(1999)

We are in the process of updating our Engineering finishing specs. I assume that any references to MIL-STD's should be replaced by AMS Std's? What about painting specs? Is there a listing of the AMS Std's available on the web? Thanks

I use Global Engineering for any updated specs. They can be expensive but they deliver quickly and have just about any one you need. I know we're replacing most of our old Mil Specs with the new AMS specs., but many of our customers still call out for the older ones.

Many of the Mil specs and standards have been replaced by AMS or other industry standard specs (ASTM). This is an ongoing project, I believe, and is not complete, as there are still active MIL specs.

I agree Global is a good place to start for AMS specs, and I saw another letter on this site under "looking for Mil spec" listing internet addresses for MIL specs.

A final note on old prints referencing cancelled specs. If your customer references an obsolete MIL spec, there will be a cancellation notice attached to the outdated spec. This notice will reference the superceding document. That spec is then acceptable to work and certify your processes to. Hope this was helpful
