A. We're happy to post this inquiry, SB, but it's a tall order. You might wish to hire a chrome plating consultant to help you with this, but perhaps a reader can recommend a book or a published article that addresses your issues. Good luck.

A. Mr Ted Mooney
This kind of plating is done inside gun barrels in India since the last 20 years.

Senior personnel at equipment manufacturers in India have designed these machines. Thousands of barrels have been plated and continue to be plated.

The question is whether Mr. Mittal of Agra needs professional help from professionals who charge sums of money to disseminate this knowledge and experience?

A. As you know, Mr. Nurie, plating plants are custom designed and built; they are not something you can buy from a catalog like a lamp.

So the perennial question remains of whether one should pay for the help that one wants, hiring an agent to work on their behalf exclusively to protect their interests, or whether he should rely on a vendor who builds the design cost into the project, but has his own interests.

Like many others, I worked for many years for equipment suppliers, and many years as a plating equipment consultant ... and now I am neutral and do neither. My own take is that if one is generally highly experienced in a given business, they can rely on the equipment provider; but if the business is new to them, they need an independent consultant working solely on their behalf.

Mr. Mittal may have sufficient experience to work directly with an equipment supplier, but it's a hard call when a specialty like gun barrel plating is involved.

Q. We want to do HARD CHROME PLATING OF GUN BARRELS, inner wall of the barrel cylinder. How do we make a plant or where do we buy it. And what is its cost. Kindly reply to me as soon as possible.

A. Hi Bader. Unfortunately there is little possibility of learning enough from a public forum response to be able to design a chrome plating plant for gun barrels. You can talk to suppliers of plating equipment and plating processes, and thumb through a few books about hard chrome plating, but I think you most likely will need to retain a consultant to work with you to design it. You might contact Mr. Nurie. Best of luck.
