-----Protective coating for steel?
Hello, I have designed a hoist attachment using steel plate per ASTM A36. The majority of the parts I have specified powder coating, safety yellow. But there are areas that can't be painted such as a mortice and tenon joint where two parts meet. How can I protect these parts from rust without adding any thickness to the machined part. There will be minimal movement in this joint. Thanks Jim

A black oxide coating is probably what you need, Mr. Moran. It will offer good appearance and some corrosion protection. This is the finish you often see on gears, sprockets, roller chain, and couplings.
