Formulation techniques

I am a student doing research for a small company, and as such I don't have guidance from anyone knowledgeable in paint technology. If someone could suggest a formulation process, including equipment & instrumentation, on a laboratory scale, I'd be very thankful.

What kind of things are you trying to paint? At least tell us is it hand rails, or fence, or toasters, or airplane parts, or computer chassis, or exterior furniture, or interior lamps, or window frames, or starter motors, etc. Tom
