What finish is safe and most cost-efficient for electroplating mass-produced barbecue grills?

Two things come to mind, High temp stoving enamel (paint) and make it out of stainless steel. The least expensive platings should not be used with food. Bright Nickel would probably be the cheapest suitable plate.
