Trying to deplate a brass plated artifact
2004
I have owned a very old Winchester Model 1873 rifle receiver (only have this part) which I bought out west years ago-the frame is pitted
-looks like someone tried either to brass plate the metal-it looks just horrible-is it possible to remove the brass from the metal frame-if so-can I buy a kit of some kind and do it at home or perhaps rig up something-I hate to see such a rare old artifact in this condition-bringing it back to bare metal pitted and all -is a heck of a lot better than what it presently looks like.

In this case I'd have the plating profesionaly removed, you are dealing with an antique that you obviously value and it would be a tragic thing for it to be ruined. So as I said before, get it profesionaly done. I suggest turning through the yellowpages to see what turns up.
