Electroplating v. powder coating of musical drums

I work at a custom drum shop. We currently powder coat parts and find that after about a year of constant use the powder coating is wearing off. I was wondering if elctroplating is anymore durable than powder coating?

Each technology has its advantages, but I would expect nickel-chrome plating to be far more abrasion resistant than powder coating.
