Can copper be used for waterline if aluminum is added to water?

2004

Hi.

1. When using copper as a main water line, and aluminum gets added to the water what will be an end result. (Will the copper tube fail due to type one pitting corrosion?)

Thanks and regards,

Copper corrosion in water can be ovrcome by using an aluminium sacrificial anode. This is a very common process in some parts of the UK where there is potentially corrosive water. The usual way is to insert a piece of aluminium rod in the bottom of the heat exchanger unit of the hot water tank. Hope this helps.
