Ambienol....have you tried it and what happened.

(1999)

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with a product called Ambienol in use with their acid and what were your results. Thanks for any information submitted.

We've used Ambienol C in our 50% HCl ("muriatic") for a few years now. It is a good wetter and really helps to cut down on the fuming. Even if an acid is vented, a difference can be noticed. It also cuts the aggressiveness of the acid- it's actually possible to leave a steel part in for up to 2 hours with no etching. But you have to be careful if you're manually running racked parts through an Ambienol-wetted acid. Because it is a wetter, it will help to form large "bubbles" on racked parts. These bubbles can burst and will mist acid over anything in the vicinity...

Mention has been made that the addition of a product surfactant called Ambienol C to HCl reduces the amount of fuming. Does anyone know where I can access this product for a trial basis. thanks
