Suitable pretreatment method for plating a cast iron product

(1999)

I am looking for suitable pretreatment to obtain smooth Zn electroplated coating on rough surface of cast iron product (used sand mold). What is the best surface pretreatment method and conditions (chemical or mechanical) to cast iron product? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You're not going to get a smooth electroplated coating on a rough surface in my experience; it doesn't work that way. I believe that you will have to machine and polish the cast iron.
