-----Fading and chipping of powdercoating
2004
Hello,
We are a wholesaler of garden furniture, part of our range is powdercoated aluminium tables and chairs. Recently, we have had severe color fading and chipping problems with some obviously poor quality powdercoating in our furniture. My question is what technical specifications must I demand from the manufacturer to give me confidence that the products are actually UV and chip resistant?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tell them you want a TGIC Polyurathane paint, and it must pass an methyl ethyl ketone ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] and cross-hatch test. These are standard for the industry and the coater should know what they are. The test will tell you that the paint is cured properly, and the pretreatment was correct. This is basic information and should tell you what you need to know, if you want to research powder coating indepth, look for the Powder Coating Institute website. You will be able to find as much detail about powder coating as you want.
