Silver Plate Purity - Which Type for What Purpose

2004

In the past we have always specified silver plate per QQ-S-365 [from DLA] without any regard to purity. Recently, it has come to my attention that this specification has been cancelled (2/2/2001) and replaced with ASTM B700. ASTM B700 contains three purity Types (Type 1 = 99.9% min, Type 2 = 99.0% min, and Type 3 = 98.0 % min). I would appreciate it if someone could provide me any recommendations or guidance for selecting the purity of silver for electrodeposited coatings as I have not found any good guidelines to tell me what Types to specify for different applications.
