"Bluing" electroless nickel plating on gun barrel

Any suggestions as to how I could *temporarily* darken a barrel with electroless nickel plating without changing or damaging the original finish in the process? I love the bright finish; I just want a temporary quick-fix that won't reflect so much in early morning sun. I was thinking maybe there was some product or homemade remedy somebody might know of. Everybody else wants a finish that¶s durable; optimally, I would want one I could apply in a few minutes, will last a few hours, and rub clean away afterwards. :-) If anybody has any suggestions, they'd be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Felt tip marking pen. Most are removable with rubbing alcohol. Note that alcohol also strips off oil, so re-oiling is mandatory.
