Substitute for HF French embossing process on glass

2004

Q. We are doing French embossing with HF acid in solutions/ reactions -- a dangerous process. Can anyone help with an easier process to produce tones on glass? Thanks :}

A. Micro blasting . Use variable pressure and variable grit size to achieve cut rate and degree of frosting. Takes a little practice. Use a good grade of white aluminum oxide. silicon carbide works longer and better, but if you have employees, you have to comply with OSHA silicosis rules. The rules are not bad, but compliance to 100% is an administrative pain in the butt and you have to have physicals.
