Acetone dissolving Aeroglaze Z306 on astronomical gear

2004

We are building an infra red astronomical instrument and using Aeroglaze Z306 with 9924 wash primer to paint black aluminium parts (6061-T6). We have had a strange problems with this paint - after painting and curing the paint dissolves when we try to clean the surfaces with ethanol. This should not be the case since the manufacturer claims that the paint is acetone proof after curing. All procedures recommended by the manufacturer were followed closely.

Does anyone have a suggestion or advice.

Thanks

Clean it with acetone on eBay or Amazon [affil link] Flammable! instead of ethanol. If it dissolves in acetone when the mfg. says it doesn't THEN raise a ruckus with the mfg.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
