How to rustproof Kovar while retaining laser weldability?

We have a small MIMs Kovar part that we would like to make rust resistant. Some of the platings that we looked at (Nickel etc.) would interfere with the laser welding process used to attach other small parts of the same material. Is there a thin, rust resistant plating or coating that would have adequate coverage and remain as a very thin film?
