Hand tool mfgr. wants ideas for new hand tool coatings

2004

Hello,

I am a prototyping engineer at a hand tool manufacturing firm. We currently make retaining ring pliers, wire strippers, coax strippers, etc... These tools are currently black oxided, and we have just begun to look into and experiment with the autophoretic coating process. I am wondering if you know of any other types of coating that will provide rust inhibiting properties, some lubrication against wear, and will last for many years. Our volumes of pieces are in the hundreds of thousands between all of our products. Please forward me information about the different processes, companies, or any other relevant information you might have. Thank you for your time.

I think e-coating (autophoretic lacquer) is promising.
