What is enameling iron?

One of my clients have asked us to supply them 16 ga enameling iron (Porcelain). what is this?

First of two simultaneous responses --

Enameling iron is very low in Carbon and other elements that would be a problem during the curing process for the enamel. Porcelain enamel is cured at extremely high temperature and the contaminants in the base metal will cause problems and blemishes in the enamel. Look to your steel supplier for the right stuff.

Second of two simultaneous responses --

The iron is immersed in, or by any other mean coated with a mixture of silicates and other additives called "green frit". It is then put in a furnace to fuse the frit. The final outcome is what is called a porcelain or fused enamel. Used for cookware long ago can still be found in some areas.
