Using magnets to improve paint adhesion to sheet metal

We have obtained an old (antique) metal storage cabinet and would like to have it repainted. We understand there is a technique out where you use a magnet on the inside of the cabinet to aid in the new paint adhering to the metal on the exterior of the cabinet. Can anyone suggest where I can get more information on this technique?
