-----Coating for Titanium Needed
I am in need of a coating for titanium that will provide me with a harder surface, but more importantly a lower friction coefficient. I have an application where a steel shaft is riding on titanium supports, and need to reduce the friction. (wet lubrication isn't an option)

Alkaline anodizing should be one of the things you look at. I think it AMS 2488.

There is evidence that cryogenic treatment does modestly increase hardness of titanium (unlike steels). We also know that steels exhibit a reduced coefficient of friction and better heat dissipation properties after treatment. Will your titanium application get both benefits? I can't say for sure, but it may be worth experimenting.

Try nitriding or one of the specialty treatments developed by General Magnaplate.
