Timeframe for baking after zinc plating

Why is the time frame important to bake parts after zinc plating within 4 hours? What will happen if parts are baked up to 8 hours after plating?

If you wait 8 hours, you will have given the hydrogen that was released into the grain structure 8 hours to do permanent damage instead of 4 hours. If you allow it only 1 hour you'll be better off still. Used to be some people thought you had 24 hours . . . then 12 hours . . . now 8 hours. It seems the real fact is that you should ideally bake immediately after plating and watch the embrittlement failures decline to zero as the time declines to zero.
