Wrought iron refinishing alternatives

I purchased a small detailed three shelved stand and have removed the surface rust with a wire brush. It looks pretty good as is. I'll probably keep it inside. Rather than repaint/spray it with something like Rustoleum, can I wipe it down with a light weight oil in order to keep its natural appearance? Or just take a rust neutralizer to it which I hope wouldn't color anything except what little rust remains. Can you recommend alternatives to the painting process? Thanks.

Oil is a nice finish but not a durable finish. If you are willing to re-oil it as necessary, say once a month, it may be what you are looking for.
