TiO2 based thin films by dip coating

Q. Respected sir

I am working as a research scholar in the department of physics, thinfilm laboratory, sir I want to do my research work on the topic " preparation of TiO2 based thinfilm coatings prepared by dip coating technique for the application in spacecraft". So sir kindly inform me about the technology that is now the people are using for dip coating technique, and kindly inform me if there are any papers on TiO2 using dip coating technology.

A. TiO2 Thin films by Dip-Coating

Usually the people prepare the TiO2 sol from its Precursors like Titanium(IV) iso Propoxide, Ti(Ethoxide), etc .. those make the TiO2 thin films by soft chemist method by Sol-Gel method. There are several methods available to fabricate the thin films Dip-coating, Spin coating , Screen Printing etc.,Generally in Dip coating method the TiO2 films get cracks , because the viscous and the gelation of sol. so spin coating is Preferable.
If any body want to achieve the TiO2 films by dip coating they may using with aid of Micro controlled to control the withdrawn speed of pulling the substrates from the TiO2 sol.
Further information you can collect the Plenty of papers and information about TiO2 sol and thin films form www.solgel.com and now a days many papers publishing this topic..
all the best for your Research.

Q. Hi Sudhakar ,

I am doing my dissertation work of my M.Tech in Nanotechnology at University of Ulster,UK.

My project is Synthesize "Nanostructured TiO2 thin films from different methods, spin coating, dip coating, sputtering,Anodization to get required results and study the Osteoblast cells adhesion to the surface", Initially I am doing spin coating, as you said sol gel was not very viscous like photo resist,so I am getting spider like structures on borosilicate glass, but I have done XRD , XPS, SEM, Surface profilometer, it's crack free, but can you tell me why I am getting spider like structures on the surface and how can I solve it?

thank you,

A. Dear Vijay Kumar,
I hope your sol may be highly viscous one, that's why you got a spider like structure or cracks on the surface of the films. you can try to reduce the viscous of the sol by varying the water alkoxide ratio, preferably just adding the alcohol much than titanium precursor.and also you can vary the spinning speed. If you need further clarification , please done hesitate you can ask me.

All the best for your MTech thesis work.

Q. Sir, I am an undergraduate student (chemical engineering 3rd year) working on a lab oriented project on photo catalytic properties and applications of TiO2. I would like to know if there is any simple technique to coat TiO2 gel/solution on glass/tiles so that we may test its application on dyes, etc.
