Laser engraving color on stainless steel

Q. Is there any way I can achieve scratch resistant colored engraving on stainless steel using my CO2 laser. I have used Cermark to achieve black but have a lot of enquiries about other colors.

A. I am familiar with Cermark and most CO2 applications, but have never heard of a colored version of such. Perhaps you could start with a colored part (painted/anodized) and remove the color from the surrounding areas? Kind of a reverse lasering?
