A. Some of the major elements of the progress were the use of galvannealed steel, electrophoretic primers, improved nickel-chrome plating via the STEP test, replacement of some parts with plastic, use of stainless steel for some systems like the exhaust system, zinc-alloy plated fasteners, and mounting the trim with adhesive or plastic barbs instead of bolting it with metal bolts.

The future probably includes more use of plastic, stainless steel, and aluminum--but this is a layman's guess, not an insider's plan.
