Our galvanizing is peeling at point of bend

Q. We have an order for galvanizing 8mm rods. The rod needs to be bent after galvanizing at 240 degrees. At present ,the zinc at the surface is peeling off at the point of bend. How do we avoid this.

A. I'm not a professional at all, but can I suggest you apply some moderate heat at the point of the bend just prior to and during the bending? The goal would be to allow the zinc to soften and "flow" around the base metal during the bending process. You may still end up with too thin a coat on the outer radius of the bend.
