Coating Specification Amchem Alodine

Q. I am looking for specification of AMCHEM Alodine and FED. STD. 595 #26307. Can anyone please tell me where to find them? Thank you very much.

A. There is no 'Amchem' anymore. It was one of the constituent companies that now comprise Henkel. They are now the supplier of Alodine.

Q. Mr. Mooney,

Where can I find the specs for FED. STD 595 Color No. 26307?

Thank you.

A. Well, let's see if a US Government URL gets posted. FED STD 595 #26307 can be ordered for FREE from http://assist1.daps.dla.mil/eAccess/index.cfm?ident_number=200689 It is gray, semigloss.

Ed. note: that URL is now: http://assist.daps.dla.mil/eAccess/index.cfm?ident_number=200689

A. The URL is posted. Now let's see if Tom accepts responsibility for advising us when it breaks :-)

Seriously, Tom, thank you for the URL. The reason we try to keep such links in a central place like our Mil Specs FAQ is that it is next to impossible to keep links to remote sites current on over a hundred thousand individual responses. The domain name for free Mil specs has changed 3 or 4 times since finishing.com went on line, and the addresses of individual documents more than that. I don't think I'm alone in sometimes getting exasperated by endless broken links when I do a search, and I'm just trying my best to keep this site from being part of that broken link problem.

Q. Tom, the website only provides services to military use only. I cannot access the file. Is that possible to obtain a digital copy? Thank you!

A. Point taken, Ted. I didn't know how else to get the information through. What is your preferred procedure? By the way, the link you supplied above (Mil Specs FAQ) is broken.

A. Sorry, Tom, hoist by my own petard--whatever that means. Anyway, the link to our Mil Specs FAQ above is now fixed. If you or other readers have additional links to propose, or if you think our FAQ pages need improvement, etc, please send a suggestion, and we can incorporate that info onto a readily maintainable page, so we don't have to worry about links breaking in old letters.

Jacky, you can follow this link to our Mil Specs FAQ to get to the publicly accessible area of assist1.daps.dla.mil , then use "FED-STD-595/26307" as your search term for 'Document ID'. That will put you on the page that Tom mentioned.

Unfortunately, that particular spec is apparently not currently maintained as a digital '.pdf' file for downloading, but is only available by mail. I don't know whether they will mail it to Malaysia. You may need to get it via one of the commercial 'specification sites' mentioned on our FAQ page.

Q. Other than memorizing your links to external links, what is the preferred method of link referral? (Below extracted from 'THE RANDOM HOUSE DICTIONARY of the ENGLISH LANGUAGE', The Unabridged Edition, 1973) PETARD noun; 1) An engine of war or explosive device used to blow in a door or gate. 3) 'hoist by one's own petard' caught in ones own trap.

A. I don't have a good way to handle all links, Tom, and am not trying to exhaust your patience, just suggesting one reason why we prefer to minimize the posting of links when practical.

If you mention a company, finishing.com will hotlink to their contact info if they are a sponsor. If you mention an organization, we'll put their information on our "Societies" page or hotlink your mention of them. If you think we have an FAQ on some subject, or should, your reply could incorporate something like "see the FAQ on that subject" and we'll edit it accordingly. Finishing.com and our readers rely on the generous advice we get from people like you, and we'll dot the I's and cross the t's--and occasionally dot the t's and cross the I's :-)
