Getting scratches off of chrome 'pipes'

Q. My husband and I have new Honda Shadow Sabre. We put new chrome pipes on the bike and our daughter accidentally got her shoe on it and the sole melted all over the pipe. We tried to clean the rubber off of the pipe and scratched them up badly in the process. My question is, how can we buff the scratches off of our pipes to put them back in their former beauty?
