I believe this is one type of thermal spray gun, which employs the detonation of acetylene and oxygen. The MFIS CD-ROM does a pretty good job on literature searches like this.

Detonation coating is more or less a trade name. The generic name would be HVOF, referring to the high velocity oxy fuel system.

You didn't indicate what level of information you are looking for. Most basic, contact Sulzer Metco or Miller Thermal or Deloro Stellite. Names may have changed a bit over the last few years - check in thomas register. These guys sell the systems and they have literature and films to promote what they are doing.

On a deeper level, do a literature search. WEB searching "thermal spray coating" on "HOT BOT" will yield a lot about HVOF and plasma systems.

Detonation is a proprietary method of High Energy Plasma application of coatings that are typically very dense and hard. Conventional plasma or flame spray will do other lesser requirements cheaper. "D Gun" is a product of Union Carbide which became Linde which became Praxair. Check out the Thomas Register at your plant or library or on line at thomasregister.com

You might be able to get by with a lesser high energy method like Metco's "J" gun. Gator Gun is another, forgot who makes that.

Miller Thermal and Metco make regular Plasma and Flame spray equipment.

At least 3 companies make a combustion process that is sort of near the high end of regular plasma and is supposedly much cheaper to operate. Tafa makes a small arc unit that I really like for plain metal and alloy application. Miller makes a large size that is capable of doing aircraft carrier deck anti skid.

Since they do not advertise here, and we do not put a lot of addresses in letters, we are fairly well stuck with telling people where they can get addresses and phone numbers.

It would not be nice to tell people who the companies are (that they normally have never heard of) and then tell them to find out how to contact them by themselves.

It would be nice if they did advertise here and then they would be linked without a lot of effort in their search.
