Removing scale from Stainless Steel

(1999)

O.K. Guys,

I have a question. How do you remove heavy scale from 316 Stainless Steel without using Nitric Acid. I have used a proprietary mixture but to no avail. If anyone has a suggestion it would be most welcome. Thanks!

We have found that using a solution of hydrofluoric acid mixed 1;2 water removes scale and welding marks from stainless steel prior to electropolishing. If you need more information, please get back to me.
