Copper nickel chrome plating on diecastings is cracking

Q. Why does copper Nickel Chrome (Decorative) plating crack?

Mustafa Bin Taib

A. If it is done right it does not crack, Mr. Taib! Hundreds of millions of diecastings have been copper-nickel-chrome plated and survived for decades as automotive components, both interior and exterior. It sounds like something is terribly wrong, perhaps in the nickel plating step -- but you would need to give us something further to go on. Does it crack if removed before chrome plating? If removed before nickel plating?

We assume the substrates are diecastings since that is the industry you say you are in.
