Chromate conversion coloring

I am searching for a way to color chromate conversion coats Olive Drab and Black.

Conversion coatings on aluminum or on zinc plating?

If on zinc plating, there are olive drab and black conversion coatings available from several sources. Putting olive drab dye in the hot rinse might be easier than having a separate olive drab chromate tank, but dyeing a less capable chromate so that it could be confused with a more capable one doesn't sound like a good idea at all.

As Ted said, direct olive drab and black chromate conversion coatings are commercially available. More importantly, the direct chromate conversion coatings have much better corrosion resistance than those with clear chromate coating followed by dyeing. I am curious about why Jerry is interested in coloring chromate conversion coating. Ling
