Polishing Titanium; Pretreatment

I need to polish 2 types of titanium, #3 and #1. #3 polishes up very nicely but #1 remains dull. #3 also anodizes much more predictably after polishing. What are some safe methods of pretreating? I don't need "the best" way, just "good enough" (and cheap enough!) I get good results up to about 80 volts, then it all goes to hell. :) But #3 gets pretty nice color all the way to 180 volts if polished. Anyway, after reading a bit I'm guessing I'm having a problem with the #1 oxidizing from the buffer heat & compound. I'm making jewelry & art related things, and need the #1 for making chains because #3 cracks to easily. Thanks in advance for any help. Sincerely, Joe Davisson

Please disregard the above message, the type that polished up nicely was something other then plain #3. Some sort of spring-type.
