Gold PVD on nickel-free jewelry

I am interested in any information about physical vapour deposition. In particular with regards to gold, for example on nickel free jewellery.

The term "PVD" includes about a dozen methods because it includes any method that physically removes atoms from one surface and deposits on another surface, e.g., by vaporizing with e-beam or heat, ion-bombardment, radiating by laser, etc. There are several books available on the subject in most university libraries. One that I have seen for an overview is written by Dr. Bunshah of UCLA, Handbook of Deposition Technologies for Films and Coatings [affil link on Amazon] but check with www.svc.com for more. I understand that several shops provide this service and some manufacturers provide the equipment.
