What CLEANING COMPOUND for Zinc Die Castings?

ZINC CLEANING COMPOUND For several years, we have de-burred and polished our zinc die-castings in ceramic and plastic media in a bowl type vibrator using proprietary compounds. We are trying to improve the surface finish preparatory to plating by using stainless steel angle cut pins in the vibrator. All of the compounds we have tried (liquid or powder) leave a greasy black smut on the surface, which is impossible to remove with our alkaline hot soak cleaner and anodic cleaner. Can anyone advise what the appropriate compound should be?

Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
