Barbecue kit coating/finishing

Hi,

I got a custom barbecue kit made out of iron sheets. I would like to know what kind of a food-grade coating/finishing should I get done on it so that the food I cook on it remains non-toxic. How would Teflon coating be for the grill? Can I get the pit painted? Also the kit has started rusting, how can I remove the rust and ensure it is still safe for cooking. Please help, I'm in a fix, don't want to see it rust any further ! :)

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
