Indium alloy solder adhering to titanium tip
I'm a student doing attachment in a company that deals with tooling for the semiconductor industry. Our pure titanium spanker tip which is used to stamp pattern on solder (90Pb, 5In, 5Ag) has been encountering some problems. After a few cycles, the solder is found to adhere to the surface of the titanium tip. We have tried nitriding but to no avail. The spanker tip has no problems with other types of solder. What can be done to prevent this from happening?

Hi,
Just to follow up on this question, my company has received the said spanker tip. The solder is not corroding the nitrided surface, rather it is adhering to it. After removing the solder, the nitrided surface is still intact. Thus, we are now thinking can it be that the solder is too rough or it is forming intermetallic compounds? Hope someone can advise soon.
Thanks,
