Upgrading copper/brass statues with a coating

2004

We are upgrading a large 94% copper statue and need to seal the final finish to give a shiny copper finish. We are having problems in 'holding' the copper colour after washing..it turns 'black'. We have acid washed, rinsed, used 'Brasso [on eBay or Amazon]' and wiped oil on the surface to keep the copper colour until it can be washed off with thinners and detergent before sealing with a clear lacquer. We need the best cleaning methods and what to seal with to retain the copper colour.

Regards..
