Compatibility of chrome and powder coat used on the same surface
I am attempting to use a two step operation in making a custom part using chrome and powder coat. My question is will I be able to overlap the chrome with the powder coat approximately 1-64 of an inch to help "seal" the edges or would it be better to "butt" the powder coat up against the chrome? I am concerned about expansion and contraction, moisture getting between the two and of course longevity. Thank you, Ron Schneider

It sounds like you are planning to do the plating first, and then powder coating up to the edge where the plating ends. An overlap can give you trouble because paint and powder in general will not stick to chrome, but that sounds better than leaving a hairline gap.
The other approach is to do the powder coating first. I think that eliminates the question and the problem.
