Yellow zinc plating with different appearance

1999

We have 2 vendor providing yellow zinc plating on our stamping product which is cold roll steel. One of the vendor able to achieve a uniform yellowish appearance but the other one shows batches of ugly greenwish spot. Both of them using similar chemical.Could anyone help to explain why is there a difference in colour. Thanks.

Lim, There are several reasons why you will see variance in color. The following parameters would have to be the same @ both vendors shops. 1. chromate concentration 2. bath temerature 3. immersion time 4. method of agitation 5. temerature of final rinse 6. length of time in hot air dryer My guess is that the vendor who is providing the greenish color is probably chromating too long and is using a final rinse which is too hot. I hope this helps. Jeff
