How do I remove color from PVD brass?
I am in the decorative faucet industry and we are having a difficult time getting quality PVD brass. We sell all brass fixtures and I want to know if there is a technique for removing the brass color from the chrome after the PVD process is complete.

It is difficult if not impossible to remove the PVD brass coating. The coating is most likely Zr-based, and hence impervious to most chemicals. Those chemicals that can react with Zr-based coatings will eat away the chrome much faster. What is the problem you are having with the PVD brass coating? Is it color consistency, or do you have delamination from the chrome? If it's a case of delamination, the problem may be with your cleaning step between the coating and the plating.

we were testing our PVD stainless sheet and found that flux from the soldering if left on would remove the coating
it did not mess up the mirror on the stainless
