Laser marking Nickel /Chrome plated steel with Sulfur in Nickel coating

What happens to the Sulfur in high content Sulfur Nickel-plating when using a laser to mark bar code info on a Nickel / Chrome plated steel product, (Chrome removed in the lasered area but heat effected Nickel remains). Does the Sulfur react the same way it would in arc welding a high Sulfur content steel by making micro explosions. If it does would this cause micro cavities in the Nickel, which would expose the base metal.
