Copper bar top questions

Hello, On my current job site, we have a bare copper bar top already installed. The owner made the mistake of using a low abrasion sandpaper on the surface, and it has a bad "brushed" look. I have two questions:
1. What is the best and easiest way to get the surface back to it's original smooth metal look.
2. What should be used to coat the surface to stop oxidizing and finger prints from tarnishing it?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Elliott,
You could try to turning the plain copper into a patina copper. There are some good resources on this site for making patina copper surfaces. For protection, I suggest several coats of high quality lacquer.
