Does low carbon steel need hydrogen de-embrittlement

Q. hello,

My customer is looking to see the cost benefit analysis of heat treating CRS to eliminate hydrogen embrittlement. None our other low carbon product is heat treated and we are looking for some documentation we can put in front of this customer to prove our position that heat treating is unnecessary.

A. Cold rolled steel should not require a post plate heat treatment. Rockwell 36C is the lowest hardness that I have seen calling out post plate heat treatment in the aerospace and military areas of plating.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
