How to blacken the copper rivets on jeans

Here's a tricky (and riveting) question for anyone that may have a solution. I would like to change the color of brass rivets to black. Look at the jeans you are wearing. Bingo! Ok, so it's not the usual scenario, however, it has been the topic of much discussion and debate, all without an answer that actually works (at least not without damaging the jeans!). So, if anyone with a viable solution would let me know, I would be very pleased. Thanks
