Solder and finishing problem

I wish to solder a pin to a piece of brass figure to use as a tie tack. Should I solder the pin before finishing and what solder should I use. I will be soldering with an open flame. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank You,

You identified your question as coming not from a hobbyist or consumer but from an industrialist with a need for industrial metal finishing solutions, John--but nothing in your posting identifies your problem as a mass-production situation. So, is this one personal tie tack or a line of tie tacks you wish to sell a million of? Not trying to be difficult, but proper answers depend on situations. Thanks.
