Satin finish Hard Chrome .. How is it done?

I want to know if anyone out there can provide me with a process/procedure that will yield a satin surface on a hard chrome plated stainless part. Is there any mechanical finishing required before or after plating? What are the typical materials used to achieve a satin finish? Is there an industry standard to achieve a satin finish? I would appreciate any input on this question.
